Getting There
The easiest method of getting to New Zealand is by air, but be ready for a long flight. Due to its isolation flights are long and usually have stopovers in Australia, Hawaii or Singapore. The sea connections are only on cruise ships, as no scheduled ferries make trips into New Zealand. If you are an experienced sailor it may be possible to work as a deckhand to get to New Zealand, on one of the many yachts that depart from Australia or any of the Pacific islands.
New Zealand has six airports supporting international flights and connections: Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Dunedin and Christchurch. Most international flights go through Auckland, as Wellington airport has limited run way capacity and the flights in and out of Christchurch predominately are to and from Australia.
Getting Around
The fantastic scenery and landscape, and relative proximity of most places in New Zealand, make it a superb place to use buses and trains. Though trains can be expensive, and buses are sometimes time consuming. Air travel is quick and if you take advantage of discount prices quite economical the views of volcanoes and mountains from the air are simply breathtaking.
