Occurring every second year (even numbered years) this festival is a month of cultural performances in theatre, music, and opera, many top international artists are featured as headline performers. It begins in mid February and ends mid March.

Other New Zealand films that have gained international recognition have been, Once Were Warriors (1994), Heavenly Creatures (1994) and presently Lord of The Rings is being filmed in the picturesque countryside of New Zealand.
