Rugby Union Match
Every town in New Zealand has it’s own Rugby ground, so it can be viewed anywhere at all. Though for the most exciting games with the best atmosphere, one should get along to a provincial match between two of the 26 regional teams. The sport is a national obsession and to understand the love the nation has for the game, one must experience it first hand.
Queenstown - ‘The Excitement Capital of the World’
Queenstown is the city where adrenaline junkies worldwide head to have a good time and get the blood pumping. Bungee jumping, ski diving, jet boating, skiing, white water rafting and snowboarding are the most popular sports, but new extreme sports are developed all the time, with heli-skiing (being dropped from a helicopter onto virgin snow or glaciers) and black water rafting (rafting through water filled caves) emerging as popular activities.
Tramping
Tramping is Kiwi for hiking, and New Zealand has many well organized and easy to follow tracks, as well as an excellent network of huts to stay in while hiking around the countryside. The tracks are graded for beginners, intermediates and experienced hikers, therefore helping the hiker find a track suitable for his/her abilities.
Skiing & Snowboarding
New Zealand is one of the most popular places in the southern hemisphere for skiing and snowboarding, in addition to Queenstown there are ski slopes all the way up the South Island, and the North Island has the largest ski area in New Zealand, Whakapapa. In general New Zealand’s ski slopes are not equipped with lodges, chalets or hotels, though the surrounding towns are usually full of places to stay.
